Trail flooding. The Pioneer Trail is about 49 miles in total and is composed of two parts. The northern crosses Hoosier National Forest lands (approximately 18 miles). The bridge across Salt Creek at the end of Miller Ridge can be under water during long rainy spells, mostly in spring. A proposed HNF high water route would make use of a horse trail exit from Miller Ridge down to the road to Story Inn, which can be used to connect to the Nebo Trail mountain bike access parking lot. Check the HNF website for information about HNF conditions.
The southern part follows private land easements (about 27 miles) with trailside camping parks, and also about 6 miles of state forest land. The bridge across the White River just beyond the Sparksville County Park trailside camp can be flooded at times of prolonged rainfall.
